Love of Learning + Love of Land
Abacus &
Aloha ‘Āina
This program would not exist as it is without collaboration with Kumano I Ke Ala, an ‘āina-based nonprofit located in west Kaua’i.
Kumano I Ke Ala (KIKA) is empowering west Kauaʻi toward a sustainable future, while protecting and preserving native Hawaiian culture.
Academic Enrichment
+
Connection to Place
Abacus & Aloha ‘Āina is not just another STEM program.
It combines math enrichment with a service component where keiki who participate are also enrolled in Kumano I Ke Alaʻs Aloha ‘Āina Afterschool & Interim programs.
Because of this, our keiki are grounded and instilled with work-ethic, civic responsibility and connection to place – qualities that many traditional academic enrichment programs do not address.
The Abacus Method
Our abacus kumu is a west Kaua’i native committed to the success and happiness of our keiki and community.
Our mission is to is to help our students build a solid foundation in math while supporting their connection to place and giving them a space where they can exercise logical reasoning, self-confidence, and a love of learning. The heart of Abacus training is whole-brain development; the bonus is a strong foundation in math.
